The AED Certification is a review of the basic operation and purpose of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator). This optional section does require a CPR course to go with it. It will include hands on use on a trainer model AED when scheduled as a class locally. AED's are becoming more and more popular as a first response accessory to use during cardiac arrest. Due to the improved success rescuers have had when using AED's, manufacturers have been making affordable and simple models for the lay person use. Rescuer models are also available and can be a little more complex, but all use the same concept of delivering a shock to the heart when a cardiac arrest patient is in a shockable rhythm. A short written test is required for this section.

If there are not any scheduled classes, you can order the course and book/CD, receive them both in the mail, with instructions, and a written test. Once you complete your test, fax or email your answers in. Once this is done, all you have to do is schedule a time to meet in person to do the Physical Skills Check off, or attend the skills part of any locally LakeCPR.com scheduled class. This skill check off usually takes 30 to 60 minutes and can usually be arranged in the Clermont or Leesburg area.
All courses offered are the new 2006 AHA Update Curriculum and standards.
AHA requires the purchase of the corresponding book for each person, for each type of AHA Course you take. The book is good for initial certification and for renewals. Your book is good until a newer book comes out. Once you purchase a 2006 AHA book, you will not need to buy another one again until a newer edition comes out and is required by the AHA. On average, AHA changes the books about every 6 to 8 years.
